Dear Members of the Diocesan Family

Bus Accident:

MU members from the Atherton Tablelands Parish and Mareeba Parish were involved in a bus accident at about 2.30pm last Friday. 

We give thanks to God that no-one was killed.  Many of the passengers have bruises and cuts, as well as suffering from shock.  I ask that you continue to pray for the passengers that they will make a speedy recovery. 

I thank the clergy and the laity of the area for their ministry not only to those on board but to their families as well.

It is at times like this that we are reminded how blessed we are to have the services of the Police, Ambulance, Fire Brigade as well as SES.  We pray God's blessing on them as they serve our communities.

The Cathedral Roof:

It has come to the attention of the Cathedral Chapter that it is best that the lower roof on the SW side of the Cathedral is replaced.  The cost of this and repair work on the apse roof will be in the vicinity of $40,000.  The Cathedral Restoration Appeal is still operating.  Donations to the Appeal are tax deductible.  If you wish to donate and require a receipt please make your cheque out to:

Brother Robin Warsop:

Last Thursday, Brother Robin celebrated the 65th anniversary of his profession as a Brother in the Brotherhood of St. Barnabas.  We congratulate Brother Robin on this milestone and we assure him of our love and prayers at this time.

Social Justice Sunday:

The 28th September this year is Social Justice Sunday.  The focus is on gambling.  The National Council of Churches in Australia (NCCA) has produced a booklet which provides information and resources.  If you would like a copy please contact my PA, Julie.  There is also a wide range of web resources available as well.

Re-tuning of Wireless Microphones:

As from 1 January 2015, all wireless microphones must be re-tuned to new frequencies.  I thank the Rev. Jeff Coop for preparing the attached notes in this regard.  If you have any queries Jeff has kindly advised that he would be happy to assist you with any further explanation.

Prayers:

The Consecration of The Reverend David Robinson as Twelfth Bishop of Rockhampton on 2^nd September was a wonderful act of worship, as was the induction of the Reverend Dr Kenneth Lay as Rector of the parish of Mossman/Port Douglas on 3^rd September.  Please continue to pray for both Bishop David in his episcopate, and for Fr Kenneth as he settles into life in the Diocese.

The Clergy Retreat date is still being finalised and clergy will be informed as soon as I am able.

Provincial Clergy Conference 2015:

Please see the attached flyer in regard to the Whole of Clergy (Provincial) Conference to be held on 10 – 13 August 2015 at Sea World Resort Conference Centre, Gold Coast. 

The Conference organisers are asking for expressions of interest of attendees, so if you are thinking you might wish to attend, please contact my PA to advise.
