Bishop Bill's Bulletin
Dear Members of the Diocesan Family
The Right Reverend Saibo Mabo:
It is with much sadness, but in the knowledge of the resurrection to eternal life, that I inform the Diocesan Family of the death of Bishop Saibo Mabo early this morning. Bishop and I enjoyed many conversations over the past decade. This I do know, Bishop Mabo knew that because Jesus lives, we as Christians live and that we have life in abundance. (John 10:10)
We assure Mrs Sania Mabo and all the family, along with the people of the Thursday and Murray Islands as well as of the Torres Straits of our love and prayers at this time.
I ask each Parrish in the intercessions this weekend to give thanks to God for Bishop Mabo and pray for his family and loved ones as well as people of the Torres Straits.
It is early days, but the Diocesan Family will be informed of the date and time when we will celebrate and give thanks to God for Bishop Saibo's earthly life and his ministry.
Bishop Saibo was made a deacon in 1987 and priested in 1989 in the Diocese of Carpentaria. He was consecrated Bishop in the Church of God in 2002. From 2002 to 2015 Bishop Mabo was an Assistant Bishop of the Diocese with Special Responsibility for the Torres Strait Region.
Bishop Saibo was a member of General Synod, NATISAC and as was Chair of the NATISEC Committee for indigenous ministry.
Since retiring as the Assistant Bishop, Bishop Mabo has been responsible for ministry on Thursday Island.
