Dear Members of the Diocesan Family,

This will be my last Bulletin to you as Administrator as on Sunday Keith Joseph will be Consecrated and Installed as our new Bishop. I trust as Christian people you will show Keith the love and hospitality for which the Diocese of North Queensland is known throughout the world.

I wish to thank you all for your help, co-operation and friendship over the past six months as Administrator and I look forward to working with you as Archdeacon in the coming years.

Damage to Churches and Property:
The recent rain event in Townsville has caused severe problems with mould in many of the Churches. St James Cathedral had to be closed and cleaned extensively, as had St John’s South Townsville. The Church of the Ascension Heatley has also suffered from mould and is at present closed, with services in the hall for the next few weeks. A big thank you to Area Dean Jeff Coop and Nikki Miller for their co-ordination with the Insurance Company and the Ministry Units.

All is now ready for the Consecration and Installation of Keith Joseph at 6.00pm on Sunday March 31st. Clergy, Bishops, Priests and Deacons are to robe in the Registry Building, Suite 10 and the colour is WHITE. The Dean will advise the order of the processions. Following the service, weather permitting, refreshments will be served in the top car park.

Faithfulness in Service Training:
There have been numerous comments on the last round of FIS training. Some very positive and some very negative. To fill in the gaps for those who could not attend, another round is being planned in Cairns, Townsville and Mackay. This round will be led by Rev’d Rod Gooden in Cairns, Rev’d Jeff Coop in Townsville and Rev’d John McKim in Mackay. The Cairns dates and venue is St Margaret’s, West Cairns; at 9am on Monday, 8th April and 7pm on Wednesday, 10th April. Dates in other centers will be advised soon.

Chrism Eucharist:
The first Chrism Eucharist for 2019 will be held on Thursday April 4 in Holy Trinity Mackay at 6.00pm. The Northern region Chrism Eucharist will be held on Tuesday April 9th at St Saviour’s Kuranda commencing at 5.30pm and the Townsville Chrism on Tuesday 16th April at St James Cathedral commencing at 7pm.
Lay Ministers and Clergy will be asked to renew their commitment and as usual the colour for the occasion is white.

Please let the Area Deans know the final number for catering purposes as soon possible

Torres Strait:
A visit to introduce Bishop Keith to the Torres Strait Region is now in the planning stage. It will commence with a welcome Eucharist on Thursday Island on Sunday May 10th at 6.00pm followed by visits to the other Islands and Bamaga. Hopefully this will include the Dedication of the new Church on Coconut Island.

The Western Centres:
A visit to introduce Bishop Keith to the West is also in the planning stage with visits to Charters Towers, Pentland, Hughenden, Richmond, Julia Creek, Cloncurry and Mount Isa in the last week of April.
National Redress Scheme:
Contrary to media claims the Diocese has joined the National Redress scheme established after the Royal Commission. Due to the weather situation in Townsville our application was delayed by a week.

Easter Service times:
Could the Ministry Units please forward to the Diocese a list of services over the Easter Period so that they can be loaded onto the Diocesan Web Site.

Diocesan Family:
Please find below a message from Cameron Wills regarding Renee. Please keep them in your prayers.
“I believe the last update in the Bulletin said that Renee was going to be operated on in Brisbane in January. The operation didn’t happen though, as they have discovered that the cancer has spread.

The operation now wouldn’t be of help. We are exploring other options. Renee will probably take part in a drug trial in Brisbane, starting Tuesday 19/2. The other option as this stage is more chemotherapy. Neither of these are a cure though. There probably isn’t a cure. We would appreciate your ongoing prayers. Renee will probably initially be in Brisbane for 4-8 weeks for the trial. Pray that my cooking doesn’t poison the kids … and that we will function well without mum (Renee). Cameron”

Yours in Christ,

The Venerable Chris Wright
Administrator/Archdeacon OAM
